Step-By-Step Music Submission
Submitting music to StudioLines.com is an easy procedure, accomplished by
following these steps:
- If you are not already registered as a member of StudioLines.com,
you must first sign up. It's free and only takes a few minutes. You
will need a valid email address to sign up and submit music online.
(If you're reading this online and don't have an email address, go
to Hotmail.com, or Yahoo.com, or Netscape.com, or any of a number
of other, similar services, and get an email account. The ones
listed here are all free, and only take a few minutes to set up.)
- Go to the Members Only section and click the Sign
Up link.
- Fill in the forms to apply for membership.
- By the time you get to the last form, you should have received
the activation code which was sent to the email address you
supplied. Check your email to get the activation code, and
enter it in the last form.
- When you press the Complete My Registration button, your
StudioLines.com membership will be activated.
-
Note: The membership system says you have 24 hours to
activate your membership. That is how long we can guarantee
your username will be reserved when you first apply, not when
your application expires: If it takes longer than 24 hours to
get back to completing the registration process, you should be
OK, unless someone else chose the same username after your
application expired.
- If these instructions were printed and passed to you, and you don't
have access to the Internet, you can still become a member by sending
in an application by snail mail. Call or write, and we will forward
the application to you.

- Once you are a member of StudioLines.com, click on the Submit
Music link in the navigation bar at the left side of the site's
main window.
- If this is the first time you are submitting music, you will need to
create a new artist profile. This is done by filling in the fields in
the For New Artists form on the Submit Music page.
- For artists already entered in our database, either enter your Artist
ID or your stage name, city and state, and look up the existing
artist information.
- After creating a new artist profile, or looking up an existing one, you
are taken to a confirmation page showing the artist information. You
are now ready to either submit music online, or send it to us via snail
mail:
- To upload music:
- Press the Upload button on the confirmation page.
- Decide how you want the track presented, the Download
Option. Note that once you've selected the "full
download" track, that option is no longer presented.
If you want to change which track is marked as your
"full download" track, go to the Members Only
area and follow the Submitted Track Maintenance
link.
- Select the Category and Genre for this
track, enter the Track Name, and the Duration
(minutes and seconds) of the track. If you don't know
the exact length of the track, enter a reasonable estimate.
- After completing the track information entry, press the
Select the song file button. Another confirmation
page is displayed with your entries. This page also has
a field for entering the name of the song file to upload,
and a Browse button that lets you navigate your
computer's disks to find the song file.
- We are set up to handle MP3, WAV, CDA, RA and AU format
files. You are strongly urged to send compressed (MP3)
files when you upload, because uncompressed files take
much longer to send. If you have WAV or CDA
files, for example, you should compress them using a
utility such as WinZip or PkZIP to reduce the file
size.
- When you have selected the song to upload, press the
Upload this song button, and wait. Your browser
will probably display a message in its status bar saying
something like Connect: Connecting host: www.studiolines.com...
then appear to do nothing for what seems like forever.
THIS IS "NORMAL" - and what's really
happening is your song is being uploaded. Depending on
the size of the file and your connection speed, it could
take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours to
complete. (Just say "yes" to cable modems :)
- When the upload process is done, a page is displayed to
show you the results of the operation. If you would like
to upload another track now, simply press the Yes,
please button and repeat this step. Otherwise,
press the No, thank you button, and return to
the Members Only area.
- To send music via snail mail:
- Press the Send CD/Tape button on the
confirmation page.
- Enter the name of your tape or CD in the Tape Name
field. If you don't have a formal name for the tape you
are submitting, make one up. Pick the media you are
sending your music on from the Media list. We
can process audio cassettes, CDs, vinyl records and Zip
disks without any processing fees. You can also send
your music on VHS cassette (Note: we will not make
use of any video on the tape), DVD or DAT; however,
we will have to charge an extraction fee. (Call for
details.)
- After entering the "tape" name and selecting the media,
press the Use this name button to go to the page
for entering track data for your submission.
- Please enter the information about every track on the
media you are sending. If there are tracks you do not
want to have available for download or purchase from
StudioLines.com, mark them as Demo Only, rather
than leaving them off the list.
- After completing the track information entry, press the
Add this song to the list button. The page is
redisplayed, with the song you just entered included in
the list at the top.
- Continue adding tracks until all of the songs on your
submission are listed, then press the Create the
report form button.
- A page is displayed to confirm your entries were added
to our database. A pop-up window is also opened with
a form listing our mailing address and the details of
what you are submitting. Please print the form
and send it with your music. It will greatly
speed processing of your music when we receive it.
- If you have JavaScript disabled, the form window will
not open automatically. Click on the link below the
buttons (which also depend on JavaScript running) to
open the form window.
- If you would like to submit another CD or tape, press
the Yes, please button and repeat this step.
Otherwise, press the No, thank you button, and
return to the Members Only area.
- One of the tracks must be marked as available for full
download. (If you upload more than one track and do not mark
the "full download" track of your choice, we will select one
for you.) The "full download" track can be played or
downloaded by anyone visiting StudioLines.com at no cost. Any
additional tracks will be available in sample form for a free
download, unless you mark them as Demo Only. If
someone wants to get the complete version one of the
additional tracks, they will have to buy it, either for
download, or on a CD. We will pay you a commission
(royalties) each time someone buys a song from one of your
sampled selections.
Any tracks you upload as Demo Only will not be
available for download by our visitors, so you won't be able
to earn royalties on them.
- That's it! If you ever want to submit more music, just follow these
same steps, starting at number 5.
Only authorized members or representatives can submit music for a band or
artist. You can change your authorizations from the Edit My Artist
Profiles link in the Members Only section when you are logged in.
