Audiopilot is an art rock/ indie pop quartet from the Santa Barbara area. Audiopilot’s music has been described as emotionally melodic and raucous, infectiously rhythmic, and aggressively beautiful. Two of the
band members, Jason Napier (vocal/guitar) and Dony West(guitar/vocal) met at art school in Columbus Oh. Forming the band Ferret Lust in 1996, creating music and art was the mainstay of the formidable years of the band. Upon meeting Chris McQuoid (bass guitar), adding the solid rhythm section and low end along with drummer J. Dokkens, the band Sink to See was formed in 1998. The band released an LP that year and toured in support of the album throughout Columbus and the Midwest that year, receiving critical acclaim and positive reviews from the press and the fans. With the relocation of the band to Southern California, and the adopting of a new name, Audiopilot, (due to the music reminding one of a sonic boom) and the addition of new percussionist Brad Pankop, the band have added many different dimensions to itself and its sound. Now emerging from Santa Barbara, California with an armory of ideals and intensity, the band is writing the most intelligent and domineering music of their career, far superior to their previous work. The band boasts a unique symmetry of music with intricate and unorthodox song structures, savory sounds with art rock experimentation and innovation with mainstream accessibility. Audiopilot has now become a formidable presence in the Southern California music scene, playing throughout the area. The band is currently in the studio recording new material and planning a US tour in late 2001. Audiopilot’s ambition is to rejuvenate the stale, watered down state that music has fell into, and bring back the promise of rock as both an art form and as a true medium.[]
